A Spark of Freedom

By Dovid Zisman

See the sun
It shines
Its light, so bright.
In Buchenwald, the concentration camp
You are here.
No, it won’t always be this way.
I see a spark of freedom.
It clangs out the hour.

And as you go through the streets
With each and every step
The ground is covered in blood
So many sacrifices.
Remember this well!
Every tree is a witness.
Barbwire without pity,
It is enough!

Hear through the distance, bells sound.
They sing out a song:
The Song of Freedom

Do you hear the music?
Yes. I hear the song that calls me
It says come, fast, faster, fight!
Because that is where my luck lies.

From prisons open gates, open doors.
Come all. Come out with me.
Gathering in streets, masses, with a song
To fight! We are ready!
From the ovens we rise, our fists in the air!
Now is the time!

Fighting between races,
End at once! It’s enough!
The righteous and the free
In the world will know.

We are together amidst the free flames
We are building a new world
Of good people
Of free people.
